United States, 30th Oct 2024 - The title of the Podcast, ‘Transforming Anger in Divorce: Insights and Strategies,” with Dr. James Walton, Ph.D. where he explains how to transform anger to positive action and learn how to communicate effectively.
Anger is a natural reaction to some circumstances, but it does not always generate the best end results. In Dr. Walton’s appearance on the podcast, he offers wisdom on understanding the underlying emotions masked by anger, such as fear or shame, and how family history can impact relationship dynamics. He gives insights on how to transform anger into positive and rational decision-making.
"Anger is like boiling water. It can be good for some things, but if you let it run unchecked, the damage it can cause is far greater than any benefit. Working as a family counselor, I help people to channel that anger into a different path, one they control and direct," Dr. Walton said. "Once you realize anger does not control you, but you control the anger, it is truly a life-changing experience. This is especially important in divorce."
The podcast was a chance for Dr. Walton to reach out beyond California to people around the world who need to hear what he had to say. He said while collaborative divorce laws vary from state to state and country to country, learning how to be calm and communicate is the same everywhere.
"We all have emotions. It is part of what makes us human. Learning how to effectively manage these emotions is what helps us be a better person," he said.
The chance for a global reach is something the LACFLA - Los Angeles Consensual Dispute Resolution Family Law Association - is glad to see.
"This was a great opportunity to share the peaceful divorce process with people everywhere," said Jena Stara, LACFLA President. "Dr. Walton is personable, interviews well and presents complicated ideas in easy-to-understand ways. He did a magnificent job on the podcast."
Dr. Walton shared invaluable insights on how feeling heard and validated can significantly reduce anger. Additionally, he discussed the importance of creating a mission statement to guide respectful interactions, both in personal and professional settings.
"These are not just buzzwords. They are guidestones on a path. They keep you going in the right direction," Dr. James Walton said.
An important part of learning how to communicate more effectively is using "I" statements. Also, listen to what the other side has to say and work to understand them, Dr. James Walton explained.
"A lot of times, anger hides other emotions and problems. Fear and shame are two big ones that use anger as camouflage," Dr. Walton said. "These emotions absolutely affect families and relationships."
Dr. Walton's work goes beyond family law. His insights and tips cover every aspect of person-to-person relationships.
Dr. Walton is a recipient Eureka Award winner for his work in family therapy and collaborative divorce.
